TOPIC: Mozilla Open Backpack - Using "Badges" to promote

Mozilla Open Backpack - Using "Badges" to promote 8 months 2 weeks ago #487

Hello,

Are any of you familiar with this new resource? It is a way to give credit to students earning skills outside of a formal learning environment. I'm sure you've all heard of the open courses offered by Harvard, MIT, and others...instead of students earning credits, which they clearly are not able to do through MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses), they could show that they've attended courses by displaying an institutional badge on their online portfolio, LinkedIn account, Facebook, etc.

wiki.mozilla.org/Badges/About

I'm experimenting with this idea right now, but I'm curious if anyone else is already trying it, or what they've learned so far. We are offering drop in sessions (our first was this week) on EasyBib, databases, etc...and I'm hoping badges will be a motivator for students to attend.
