TOPIC: How to Move Forward?

How to Move Forward? 1 year 3 months ago #326

Our Research Rescue program has several components; library instruction on the basic and advanced levels, Walk-In Clinics (research clinics) and having a presence at orientations.
In order to move the program forward we are creating tutorials for Research 101, the basics of library research. Faculty will be able to embed these tutorials into their Blackboard classes with the expectation that students can access this information easily and learn the basics of library research. It will free librarians up to focus on developing advanced workshops both online and in-person.
More information coming up later about how partnering with other units on-campus has helped us begin to “grow” this program.

I've been reading about your Research Rescue Program. I am currently trying to market my library's resources. Many students are already using our resources but so many still don't know what we have and how to find information (this includes faculty as well). The first place many students still go to is GOOGLE and Wikipedia. I have made marketing our resources a bench marking project, and I am trying to come up with new and innovative ideas to draw our students and faculty toward using everything that is available to them.
If you have some ideas to offer, please let me know.

We began our Research Rescue program approximately one year ago, created a logo, developed basic and advanced workshops, and are now working toward making the Research 101 workshop (basic workshop) online only. This will allow faculty to embed the tutorials into their courseware which will free up the librarians to teach the advanced workshops. Along the way we discovered that getting the word out is crucial, timing is everything, and that the most effective marketing is our faculty.

As time passes, word about our workshops will continue to grow, the logo will become recognizable and attendance will improve. The librarians doing the workshops are our best form of advertising.

Words of advice - get started, don't give up!
